10 Incredible Installations at the Heydar Aliyev Center in Baku

The Heydar Aliyev Center is not just a museum or an architectural masterpiece by Zaha Hadid. It’s a place that’s impossible to forget: waves of pristine white forms, a sense of spaciousness and calm, and of course, art at every turn.

But the most interesting part begins outside. Yes, right under the open sky, around the Center, there is a collection of art objects you can’t just walk past. These installations are the work of both Azerbaijani and international artists, each carrying its own mood, idea, and character. Some make you think, others make you smile, and yet others impress with their scale or irony.

Below are the main installations:

1) Hand of God

Author: Lorenzo Quinn

Hand of GodHand of GodHand of God

Author’s Description:

One night, a man had a dream. He dreamed he was walking along the beach with the Lord. Scenes from his life flashed across the sky. For each scene, he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand: one belonging to him, and the other to the Lord.

When the last scene of his life had flashed before him, he looked back at the footprints in the sand. He noticed that many times along the path of his life, there was only one set of footprints. He also noticed that it happened at the toughest and saddest times of his life.

This worried him greatly, and he asked the Lord: “Lord, You said that once I decided to follow You, You’d walk with me all the way. But I noticed that during the most difficult times of my life, there was only one set of footprints. I don’t understand why, when I needed You the most, You would leave me.”

The Lord replied: “My son, My precious child, I love you and would never leave you. During your trials and sufferings, when you saw only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you.”

2) Give and Take III

Author: Lorenzo Quinn

Give and Take IIIGive and Take IIIGive and Take IIIGive and Take IIIGive and Take III

Author’s Description:

It is very important to find balance in life. From the dawn of time, nature has been trying to teach us this lesson. All opposites converge at their extremes. You can’t truly enjoy receiving if you have never given anything; you don’t appreciate a gift if you only value things that come through hardship.

Description:

In today’s era of globalization, we are all connected in one way or another, emphasizing once again: a single thread is weak, but when multiple threads are woven together, they become unbreakable.

6) Aquarius Sphere

Description:

Mythology introduces us to the image of the first water-bearer. His name was Ganymede, the son of the second king of Troy. Ganymede was abducted by Zeus and taken to Olympus, where he served the gods the drink that granted immortality, thereby becoming immortal himself.

In its sculptural form, this piece “breaks the mold,” just as Ganymede broke the pre-established rules by transcending mortality; so does the Aquarius Sphere go beyond the usual idea of a sphere by opening upward in a dynamic burst. It takes courage to break the pattern — to be able to think for oneself.

Conclusion:

We highly recommend visiting the Heydar Aliyev Center to see these installations with your own eyes. They not only add vibrant color to this city and museum but also create a unique atmosphere worth capturing in photos.

Enjoy the art and be inspired!
